In the search for better lawn grasses, every so often a breeder strikes it rich. Such was the case with Blade Kentucky bluegrass, a foundling from New York which earned its credentials at Rutgers University. The Rutgers research team didnt take long to find out that this true-breeding selection had what it takes all across the country. The variety was licensed to Jacklin Seed Co. for development. Also, the Canadian Seed Trade Association announced a new variety of Kentucky bluegrass called Birka was now available. Darker green than most Kentucky bluegrasses, its spring growth began very early and continued into late fall.
