SEED TESTING INTERNATIONAL www.seedtest.org
TRAINING AND EDUCATION •
facilitated during the workshop, to understand
the challenges and best practices of seed purity
analysis and seed identification in various
countries. The host, Seed Quality Services,
provided a tour of their laboratory and prepared
all required samples and specimens. Their
professionalism, creativity and hospitality
impressed all participants, and their efforts
made the workshop an excellent experience
for the participants as well as the ISTA Purity
Committee members.
Hard work was rewarded with some fun times
as well. To express respect and to celebrate the
different cultures of the participants, the local
organisers designed a cultural day during the
workshop. We all were able to participate in
typical and charming Klein Karoo hospitality:
an African safari experience with majestic
Swartberg Mountain views, a large waterhole
with hippos, and other abundant wildlife
including elephants, rhinos and giraffe. This day
culminated in a dinner of traditional dishes and
great camaraderie.
It was a few days well spent between colleagues
and fellow scientists, gaining knowledge, sharing
experiences and building strong bonds.
