The presentations captured the attention and
curiosity of the attendees and were followed by
a session of questions and answers that involved
the participants in interesting, professional
discussions. During the conference 96 posters
were presented on topics related to genetic
aspects, plant breeding, seed health and future
objectives for breeders considering the climate
change challenge and eco-friendly practices.
Former employees of the Institute were invited
to celebrate together, and several accepted the
invitation.
ISTA was represented by Florina Palada (Head
of the Accreditation and Technical Department)
as invited speaker with the presentation ‘From
seed science to ISTA Rules for seed testing’.
In the presentation she highlighted that a
positive impact on food and feed supply can be
achieved by improved seed breeding processes
and cultivation techniques. These methods
always require high seed quality, which can
only be achieved through uniform seed testing.
Florina’s presentation was well received by the
participants and organisers. This was the second
time ISTA has participated in an event at the
Institute, and the Association’s presence should
be continued.
As a participant of the conference, I can confirm
that the event was a success. The information
received, the good interaction between
participants, the social events and the excellent
organisation should be commended. Moreover,
as this was an in-person event, everybody had the
opportunity to exchange ideas and to establish
new connections and collaborations.
On the last day of the conference some of the
participants attended workshops organised by
the Institute, while others were invited on an
excursion to Oplenac, including lunch and a visit
to a winery.
The message from Zemun Polje to the world at its
80-year celebration was an inspiring one:
“Celebrating eight decades of innovation, growth and
global influence, rooted in the heart of Zemun Polje.
What began as a local vision has become a legacy that
reaches across continents – transferring technology,
inspiring generations and building
the future.”
ISTA congratulates the Zemun Polje Institute for
its 80-year celebration!
