PRODUCT After several years of product evaluation, Albaugh LLC will launch a new biological seed treatment platform, known as BIOST, for the 2017 treating season. The BIOST platform, which includes a broad portfolio of biological seed treatments, has been tested to enhance perfor- mance and grower return on investment when combined with traditional synthetic seed treat- ment chemistries. The goal three years ago was to identify a wide array of biological seed treatment active ingredients and bring them under one umbrella brand for our customers to access and supply to the market, explains Jay Stroh, Albaugh’s biological seed treat- ment lead/key account manager. The BIOST platform is the result. Limagrain Cereal Seeds (LCS) introduces two new hard red spring wheat varieties to the Pacific Northwest, LCS Iron and LCS Luna. The company says both varieties exemplify the superior standards of LCS genetics and were bred specifically for the diverse growing conditions in the Pacific Northwest. LCS Iron is tailored for farmers looking for an irrigated or higher rainfall spring wheat option with very good tolerance to current races of stripe rust. The new variety has a wide area of adaptation — extending from Washington and Oregon down into southern Idaho and even into Montana. LCS Luna has shown top-end yield perfor- mance in Pacific Northwest trial sites with dry-to-medium rainfall environments. The BioAg Alliance, Monsanto’s and Novozymes’ collaboration, announced 2016 field trial pro- gram results and shared updates on its research pipeline. Among the pipeline highlights is the Corn BioYield 2 project, which builds upon the recently-launched Acceleron B-300 SAT. Field trial results in 2016 showed Corn BioYield 2 project strains — com- bined with Acceleron B-300 SAT — increasing corn yields by up to an average of 5 bushels per acre over a base Acceleron seed treat- ment. A Corn BioYield 2 product is expected to launch in 2019. The BioAg Alliance will introduce two new products in 2017. Acceleron B-300 SAT is a corn inoculant based on a fungus found in soil. The fungus grows along the roots of corn plants and increases nutrient uptake to the plants. Acceleron B-200 SAT stimulates the growth of beneficial microbes in the soil to improve nutritional uptake of soy plants, which can lead to improved plant health.
