chantland.com 515 332 4045 CONVEYING PACKAGING PALLETIZING In 1945 Al purchased a vacant building in Badger and moved his conveyor manufacturing business off the farm. The Chantland Man- ufacturing Company was growing! During this time Al also developed and marketed a dust control sys- tem for grain elevators and mills, though at some point he let this product line go the side to focus on manufacturing belt conveyors. By 1956 the growth of his manu- facturing business prompted Al to begin plans to expand again. He sold the Elton Seed and Milling Company to his brother-in-law, purchased 160 acres a few miles away near Humboldt, Iowa, and built a new manufacturing plant in 1957.The first full year of opera- tion in his new factory saw a 28% increase in sales. Never one to sit idle, Al developed a process for hydraulically forming conveyor rollers and in 1959 began marketing these to other manufac- turers and end users. Sales of his new product line exploded with a 4,150% growth in the second year of production. In 1962 Al more than doubled the size of his plant and in 1966 purchased the plant and equipment of a firm in Eagle Grove, Iowa, blending this into his company. Another expansion took place in 1968 and again in 1974 as Red Oak Packaging was absorbed into the Chantland Company. This broadened our product line to include a wide range of bag filling scales in addition to our package and bulk handling conveyors. By 1977 we needed to expand again and purchased a relative- ly new manufacturing facility in Dakota City, Iowa, just across the railroad tracks from Humboldt. Production of our conveying and packaging equip- ment as well as new corporate offices were moved into this facility, allowing our industrial pulley and roller business to expand within the original plant. The 1980s and early 1990s saw a dramatic increase of the pulley/ roller side of the business with three major expansions, while the machinery side registered two more patents and acquired the MHE Company, a manufacturer of bag palletizers highly respected for reli- ability in the rugged environments of packaged concrete. This acquisi- tion required a major expansion to the plant and offices in Dakota City. In 2003 we celebrated our 60th anniversary with over 33,000 ma- chines shipped worldwide. In 2011 AccelPak, a packaging and design company headquartered in Ottawa, Kansas, was purchased and moved to our Dakota City facility. This acquisition brought another high-end packaging line into our family with a strong reputation in the flour milling market.
