This is a key milestone in the process to merge the two companies and subsequently pursue the intended spin-offs of three independent companies. The companies expect the merger transaction to close in the second half of 2016, subject to customary closing conditions, including receipt of regulatory approvals. Kuypers assumes leadership of the company’s specialized professional turf, ornamental and professional pest management portfolios. Pulse Canada applauds the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization for nominating Joyce Boye, a distinguished researcher and innovator from Canada, as FAO Special Ambassador for the International Year of Pulses 2016. The appointment was announced during an event hosted by the FAO Liaison Office for North America in Washington, D.C. Maria Andrade, Robert Mwanga, Jan Low and Howarth Bouis were named the 2016 World Food Prize Laureates. Thanks to the combined efforts of these four laureates, more 10 million people have been positively impacted by biofortified crops, with a potential of several hundred million more in the coming decades. This year’s $250,000 prize will be divided equally between the four recipients. The prize rewards their work in countering world hunger and malnutrition through biofortification. DuPont Pioneer and Hexima discover a novel insect control gene that is active against certain crop-destroying insects and will help growers protect their yields. As growers struggle with pest pressure, new solutions are needed to maintain crop productivity. The gene comes from a unique genetic resource pool and offers a promising new way to protect crops globally from the devastating damage that occurs when insect feeding goes uncontrolled.
