The U.S.–Canada Greenhouse-Grown Plant Certification Program (GCP) is a bilateral export certification program for greenhouse-grown plants shipped between Canada and the continental United States. The revised program allows authorized facilities to ship plants using a GCP sticker in place of a phytosanitary certificate. The revised GCP strengthens oversight of plant movement, requires consistent implementation of the program, and reflects current business practices. There will be a two-year period for facilities registered in the current Canadian Greenhouse Certification Program to transition to the GCP. CFIA GRANTS AGNITION REGISTRATION FOR TWO PRODUCTS Agnition announces that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has granted registration for two products in Canada, Generate for crops and Commence for wheat seed treatment. Both products will be available to Canadian farmers for the 2017 growing season. REGULATORY ROUNDUP Keeping you informed of legislative and regulatory changes at the provincial, national and international levels — from lawsuits to approvals to other regulatory issues affecting your business. Generate uses patented microbial catalyst technology to simulate microbes in the soil to increase nutrient uptake, optimizing crop growth and yields, according to the company. Generate can be applied in-furrow, foliar or side-dress on corn, soybeans, alfalfa, wheat and sugar beets. CFIA REGISTERS INOCUCOR'S SPECIALTY AG BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTS Inocucor Technologies Inc. announces that the CFIA has registered its first two specialty ag biological products for use by Canadian farmers and greenhouse growers. Synergro is a live- cell formulation for high-value produce, such as strawberries, tomatoes, lettuce and broccoli. Synergro FreeTM is a cell-free bio-fertilizer additive to existing plant nutrients for commodity row crops, such as soybean, corn and wheat. They are among the first microbial products of their kind to be registered in Canada, according to the company. INTERNATIONAL STATES TO JOIN LEGAL PROBES OF BIG AG MERGERS According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, U.S. state attorneys general have joined a federal antitrust probe of the planned merger between DuPont and Dow Chemical Co., and a separate group of state attorneys general are expected to join a probe of Bayer AG's $66 billion plan to buy Monsanto Co. Citing sources close to the matter, the paper reports the states are concerned that the companies may raise pesticide and herbicide prices for farmers following a merger, and have less incentive to compete to introduce better and cheaper products. DOW-DUPONT MERGER DELAYED AS EU ASKS FOR MORE INFO According to Bloomberg Markets, Dow Chemical Co. and DuPont Co. face further delays to their planned merger after the European Commission demanded more information about the $59 billion deal. According to Bloomberg, the EU’s merger regulator “stopped the clock” in its investigation on back in October, which happens “if the parties do not provide an important piece of information that the commission has requested.” GM WHEAT MIGHT BE GROWN IN BRITAIN IN 2017 The Telegraph reports genetically modified wheat could be grown in Britain next spring after scientists applied to the Department for the Environment for permission to begin trials. If granted, plants will be harvested in the fall of 2017 before a second phase will take place in the spring of 2018, it was reported.
