She joined CANTERRA in 2008 following her tenure as president and CEO of the Brewing and Malting Barley Research Institute. She’s also held positions with Canada Malting Co., Ltd. and General Mills, Inc. Armstrong serves as chair of the Intellectual Property Committee for the Canadian Seed Trade Association; chair of Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s Plant Breeders Rights Advisory Committee; and co-chair of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Biotech Wheat Working Group, part of the Grains Round Table. Glyn Chancey, Canadian Seed Growers’ Association Executive Director Chancey took over as CSGA’s executive director in 2015, after many years as a federal government employee. During that time, he held executive positions with a number of government departments and agencies, but it was his role as the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s director of the Plant Production Division that fostered his strong relationship with Canada’s seed industry. Marie Haga, Global Crop Diversity Trust Executive Director After serving on the executive board of the Global Crop Diversity Trust for a number of years, Haga joined the Global Crop Diversity Trust as executive director in March 2013. She has a diverse background rooted in Foreign Service as a career diplomat. Haga has held various positions in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affaires including to the Norwegian Mission to the United Nations in New York and the Embassy in New Delhi. She was politically appointed to the positions as State Secretary/Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affaires and served as a Member of Parliament in Norway. Haga has been on several boards, including as chair of the Governing Board of the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research and chair of the Governing Board of the Industrial Development Corporation of Norway. Linda Nel, Syngenta Seedcare Product Management Lead Having joined Syngenta in 2006, Nel has since held a number of positions within the company before becoming global Seedcare product management lead. In this position, she is responsible for heading up the company’s seed treatment product portfolio with the goal of driving innovation and anticipating customer needs and regulatory trends. Prior to joining Syngenta, Nel worked as a marketing expert and held a number of marketing positions for companies including General Mills, UDV (Diageo) and Mercadolibre among others. Jeff Reid, SeCan General Manager (CEO) Reid is the chief executive officer and is accountable to the board of directors. He is responsible for day-to-day operations and for developing programs within the policies established by the board. Previously, Reid served as manager at C&M Seeds in Palmerston, Ont. He served as president of the Canadian Seed Trade Association in 2008-09. Garlich Von Essen, European Seed Association Secretary-General Prior to joining the seed industry in 1999, Von Essen worked in the European Parliament in agricultural and structural policy, specifically on the European Union’s research and development policy and funding instruments. Joining ESA as director of public affairs, he became secretary- general in 2004.
