O
ur company has been serving the seed industry since 1956,
and over the decades we’ve gained a wealth of experience
in pretty much everything from packaging and logistics to
quality assurance and import-export. This wide-ranging know-
how serves our seed coating customers well, ensuring that a
sometimes complicated process is efficient, seamless, and timely.
Our philosophy is simple: We’re successful when the seed
companies we service are successful. We got into the seed coating
business because our biggest customer needed that service and
had faith in our ability to provide it. To this day, we continue to
meet our customer’s needs, no matter what. That means match
ing our field-proven coatings to the crops they best suit so that
our customers can be confident that the product we deliver will
perform predictably batch-after-batch and year-over-year.
There is no question that there are unique challenges to the
seed coating business. I sit down every year with our customers
to talk through their needs for the coming season, and yet I do
so knowing that, despite our combined best efforts, the schedule
needs to include room for the constant fire alarms that will erupt
when our busy season rolls around. It’s not at all unusual for seed
companies to come to us pretty much every week needing a quick
turnaround as they deal with fire alarms of their own. That’s the
nature of the business we’re in, and we’ve learned to be prepared,
flexible and ready to react quickly with all the necessary adjust
ments when jobs start arriving in a rush.
We have found that strong communication is essential. I tell
our customers, if there's something you guys need, give me a
call. If I don’t know the answer, I will get it. Just tell me what seed
you’re working with, what you’re trying to achieve, and we will
come up with a solution, even if that means developing a custom

ized formulation. Our goal is to consistently produce a product
that our customers can be proud to put their brand on, freeing
them up to focus their energy on marketing and selling their
seeds.
One of the biggest compliments we got this year was from a
customer that I called to see how a coating and packing job we’d
done for them had worked out. He told me that he hadn't heard
anything bad from his operations manager. That may not sound
like a glowing report, but our customers tell us that they find our
dependability and consistency to be a huge relief. It allows them
to focus one hundred per cent on servicing their own customers.
They only comment if there’s a problem, and that isn’t often.
Businesses need to decide how they measure success, and I
know we're doing a good job if we have consistent year-over-year
runs and our customers keep on coming back. They may not talk
much, but when they continue to place their trust in us, I know
we’re doing well.
