S&W provides expertise in agricultural breeding, production and processing for the alfalfa, sunflower, sorghum species, and stevia industries. AGT is one of the largest suppliers of value- added pulses, staple foods and food ingredients in the world. SeedVision plans to leverage AGT Foods Africa’s production and pro- cessing facilities to produce S&W’s hybrid sunflower, grain sorghum and forage sorghum for sale by SeedVision in the African continent, LEGEND SEEDS TRANSITIONS FROM FAMILY TO EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP Legend Seeds announced its transition from a family-owned independent regional seed leader, to an employee- owned independent regional seed leader through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Founded in 1990 by Glen and Janet Davis, Legend Seeds has embarked on its 29th selling season in the seed industry serving dealers and growers across the U.S. and Canada. “With so much change in the seed industry, we’ve spent a lot of time planning for the future of Legend Seeds to provide certainty and stability not only for our employ- ees, but for our dealers,” says Glen Davis, CEO and founder of Legend Seeds. “This transition to an ESOP will do three things: assure Legend’s future for both staff and dealers; allow Legend to continue to oper- ate with its’ core values and focus in place; and remain a strong, healthy, independent seed company with an incredibly bright future.” PEOPLE DAVE CAREY TO CO-CHAIR THE SEED SECTOR VALUE CHAIN ROUND TABLE Canadian Seed Trade Association executive director Dave Carey has accepted the nomination of indus- try co-chair for the Seed Sector Value Chain Round Table (VCRT), Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has announced. Carey is replacing Jeff Reid who has decided to step back as industry co-chair after over three years in the position. “Carey has demonstrated his ability in collaborating and develop- ing consensus through his involve- ment with the Seed VCRT, together with providing strategic advice and fostering relationships with stakehold- ers and public officials,” said VCRT government co-chair Liz Foster. “His understanding of agricultural policy development, decision-making and Middle East countries and Europe. AGT Foods Africa has agreed to uti- lize its production resources in South Africa, Zambia and Tanzania, and its seed cleaning and warehousing facili- ties at Krugersdorp, South Africa.
