The name change reflects the fuller integration of the Seed Hawk brand within the Väderstad Group. Seed Hawk and Väderstad have been working together since 2006. In 2013, the Swedish agricultural equipment manufacturer took full ownership of Seed Hawk. The company also announced the appointment of Nigel Jones as the new CEO of Seed Hawk/Väderstad Industries. He has been with the company for three years as the vice-president of operations, and additionally as vice-president of R&D since December 2016. SGS PURCHASE OF BIOVISION A ‘NEXT-LEVEL’ MOVE SGS’s recent acquisition of BioVision Seed Research means an improved offering for the newly formed company’s clients, yes. But the purchase of BioVision by SGS is bigger than that. “From a seed industry stand- point, this takes things to the next level,” says Trevor Nysetvold, the new company’s director of seed and crop in Canada. SGS BioVision came into existence on Nov. 3, with the announced acquisition of BioVision by SGS, a major global inspection, verification, testing and certifi- cation company. “SGS’ Canadian and global footprint in agriculture and food is tremendous. In fact, our com- pany’s beginnings originate in this industry,” adds Fulvio Martinez, regional communications manager for SGS North America. PEOPLE GERMINATION FOUNDER INDUCTED INTO AG HALL OF FAME An historic event saw three accomplished and out- standing Canadian women inducted into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame at a special awards banquet on Nov. 30, 2017 in Calgary. The 2017 inductees included Robynne Anderson, founder and former publisher of Germination. Anderson was raised on a family seed farm in Manitoba, and began her career in agricultural advocacy in the political arena, working on legis- lation impacting the Plant Breeders’ Rights Act. She worked extensively with the Canadian Seed Trade Association after launching Issues Ink, which publishes Germination, Seed World, European Seed and Spud Smart. In 2010 Anderson started Emerging Ag, a consulting firm to the agricultural sector. ARYSTA LIFESCIENCE HIRES NEW CANADIAN STAFF Arysta LifeScience North America recently announced the addition of Kate Sanford Mitchell as the marketing manager for seed treat- ments, fungicides and insecticides in Canada, and Kayla Tycholiz as a sales and marketing specialist, also in Canada. Sanford Mitchell joins Arysta LifeScience following employment with Bayer’s Crop Science division as a project manager, marketing port- folio manager and market research specialist. Tycholiz recently began full-time employment with Arysta LifeScience following summer intern- ships with the company’s technical sales specialists and territory manag- ers in Saskatchewan.  AGRONOMIX APPOINTS NEW PRESIDENT Winnipeg’s Agronomix Software, a manufacturer of plant breed- ing software, has appointed Chris Leonard as its new president. Since 2008, Leonard has been an impor- tant part of the Agronomix team, from basic support to web develop- ment, sales and service to accounts receivable.
