His work history includes extensive experience in seed and crop protection roles, with jobs at Cargill, Viterra, Syngenta and Agricore United. PRODUCT NEWS Global plant phenotyping specialist LemnaTec has unveiled the largest field robot in the world, capable of continuously monitoring the development of crops under real growing conditions. The new Field Scanalyzer was built for the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) as part of a program to “develop tools that enable an increase in the rate and extent of genetic improvement of the yield of bioenergy crops grown in the field.” Pioneered in the United Kingdom’s Rothamsted Research Centre, this revolutionary machine enables scientists to monitor crops in a field environment 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The machine is installed at the University of Arizona’s Maricopa Agricultural Center in Arizona. Syngenta Canada expands its canola seed portfolio with SY4187, a new Genuity Roundup Ready hybrid that has high yield potential, strong clubroot resistance and multi-genic blackleg resistance. SY4187 is best suited for the mid- to long- season maturity zones of Western Canada. SY4187 is expected to be available in the fall of 2016 for spring 2017 seeding. Forage Genetics International will offer commercial seed sales of HarvXtra alfalfa with Roundup Ready Technology to farmers in Eastern Canada in time for spring 2016 planting. This decision is confined to the sale of seed for hay production. Companies are not permitted to undertake HarvXtra alfalfa with Roundup Ready Technology seed production in Canada. Syngenta Canada launches Visivio seed treatment, a new Seedcare solution offering canola growers enhanced early- season protection against flea beetle feeding and seed- and soil-borne diseases. Visivio combines two seed-applied insecticides, thiamethoxam and sulfoxaflor, to provide excellent control of both striped and crucifer flea beetle species for up to 35 days after seeding. This protection helps minimize stem and leaf feeding during the canola crop’s early growth stage and supports more consistent stand establishment.
