BUSINESS NEWS Monsanto sells its U.S. sorghum produc- tion assets through a joint venture with Remington Holding Company. The joint venture is designed to drive a higher level of investment and innovation in, and provide greater market access to, this impor- tant global cereal crop. Monsanto and Remington said the transaction is expected to close following customary regulatory approval. Hazera has been making further inroads into the Spanish vegetable seed market through its local subsidiary located in the region of Almería. It is currently in the midst of launching a whole range of varieties that were specially cultivated for the Spanish market. According to Hazera’s commercial director for Southern Europe and Israel, Zion Barel, the Spanish vegetable market is one of the largest in the world, with an annual turno- ver of 250 million euros. Land O’Lakes completes its acquisition of Ceres, which will become part of the company’s forage business unit, Forage Genetics International (FGI). DLF takes possession of the alfalfa germplasm and varieties, seed stock and commercial agreements related to Florimond Desprez’s alfalfa business. Beck’s announces a new agreement with Herschel, a manu- facturing and distribution company out of Indianola, Iowa. Herschel will take over all sales, service and distribution of Flo-Rite seed firmers. Herschel specializes in the sales, manu- facturing and distribution of tillage tools, harvesting, hay, trac- tors, planting equipment, spray/fertilizer, and other agricultural replacement parts. DuPont and Monsanto Company announce a new licensing agreement for one of Monsanto’s next-generation soybean technologies that will provide an additional choice for Brazilian farmers. Under the terms of the agreement, DuPont Pioneer will receive a royalty-bearing license to Intacta RR2 PRO technol- ogy in Brazil. The license is subject to customary review and prior approval by Brazilian regulatory authorities. Monsanto Company has been granted an exclusive license to TargetGene’s “T∙GEE” (Genome Editing Engine) platform. Monsanto has also established an equity position in the private Israel-based company.
