The divestment of the two global brands was a requirement imposed by South Africa's Competition Commission. It will account for the bulk of asset sales worth about $2.5 billion, which need to be made to satisfy competition regulators looking at the $66 million Monsanto deal, according to Reuters sources. PEOPLE GERMINATION FOUNDER JOINS AG HALL OF FAME Germination founder Robynne Anderson will join the prestigious Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame at a special ceremony in November. Anderson began her long and distinguished career in Canadian agriculture as a legislative assistant to the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, working on the new Plant Breeders’ Rights Act. Her knowledge of agriculture and experience in govern- ment set the course for creating Issues Ink, her consulting firm that worked closely with the Canadian Seed Trade Association. Anderson now operates Emerging Ag, an agricultural consulting firm. DONALD BUCKINGHAM APPOINTED CAPI CEO Donald E. DEVITT RESIGNS AS CSTA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Canadian Seed Trade Association (CTSA) executive director Crosby Devitt is leaving CSTA and moving to Grain Farmers of Ontario (GFO) to serve as vice-president. He’s been at GFO before, when he held the roles of vice-president of strategic development and research manager. Following recent organizational restructuring at GFO, the sole vice- president will oversee the research, market development, communications and wheat marketing departments. SYNGENTA PICKS NEW PRESIDENT OF SEEDS David Hollinrake is named presi- dent, Syngenta Seeds, LLC and North America region director. In this role, he will strengthen Syngenta’s North American seeds business by driving improvements already underway to ensure maximum focus on customers with a choice of top genetics, traits and agronomic support particularly suited for their specific growing location. Hollinrake will be based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. ISTA APPOINTS NEW SECRETARY-GENERAL The International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) has appointed Andreas Wais as the new ISTA secretary-general. He joined Schering AG before going on to study chemis- try at the University of Braunschweig in Germany.
