The Perennial Plant Association Names 2015 Plant of the Year

By vote of its members, the Perennial Plant Association named the Geranium xcantabrigiense — more commonly known as Biokovo — as the 2015 Perennial Plant of the Year.
A naturally occurring hybrid of Geranium dalmaticum and Geranium macrorrhizum, Biokovo is found in the Biokovo Mountains of the Dalmatia region of Croatia.
Martha Smith, a University of Illinois Extension horticulture educator, says the plant only grows 6 inches to 10 inches tall, making it an excellent groundcover.
Designed to showcase plants that stand out among the competition, the Perennial Plant of the Year, which first started in 1990, is chosen for its ability to grow in a wide range of climates, low maintenance, multiple-season interest and relatively pest and disease free.
