From Genomics to Communications, Allen Van Deynze Shares Thoughts

When it comes to crop focus, Allen Van Deynze says there’s only about 250 crops in California of importance. Instead of focusing on a specific crop, the University of California, Davis, plant research director has put emphasis on developing breeding tools that can be used across crops. One of the newest things is taking high throughput phenotyping from being two-dimensional to 3-D.

Seed World’s publisher, Shawn Brook, had an opportunity to catch up with Van Deynze at the SolGenomics Conference in September at the UC-Davis. Van Deynze is the director of research at the Seed Biotechnology Center and associate director of the Plant Breeding Center.
