ASTA Kicks Off Annual Convention in Portland

The American Seed Trade Association, in partnership with the Oregon Seed Association, kicks off its 133rd annual convention in Portland, Oregon today.
The five-day event’s theme is “Blazing Trails” and showcases Oregon’s diverse seed industry. The two groups determined early on that they would work together in 2015 and continue that through 2016 in a way that will enhance partnerships between the associations and among its members for years to come.
While Oregon may be well known for its prominent cool-season grass seed industry, it is similarly famous around the world for highly successful specialty seed production.  Oregon agriculture is extremely diverse, producing over 220 different seed and other crops.  Portland is located on the north end of the Willamette Valley, an area of about one million acres of farmland extending 100 miles to the south.  Most of the state’s 220 agriculture products are produced in this valley.
