IPSA Seed Treatment Trials Get a High-Tech Upgrade

With new partnerships and advanced analytics, IPSA is modernizing its seed treatment trials to deliver better data for independent seed companies.

The Independent Professional Seed Association (IPSA) is expanding its 2025 Seed Treatment Trials with advanced data analytics and new industry partnerships to ensure independent seed companies receive comprehensive unbiased evaluations of the latest seed treatment options.

As the seed treatment landscape evolves with new products entering the market, IPSA continues to refine its long-standing trial program to deliver functional and relevant data. This season, the association is partnering with Good Seed Analytics to provide advanced data analytics and EarthOptics to explore new methods for measuring soil health.

“As an independent unbiased industry trade group, IPSA has been in the perfect position to offer this long-established trial service for its members collecting treatment efficacy data and analytics,” Gro Alliance, LLC specialty seed projects and organic and small grains lead Jeffrey Block said.

The 2025 trials will include twelve locations per region, with each entry evaluated across two hybrids or varieties and three replicated plots at each site. Data collection will cover agronomic factors such as stand counts, vigor ratings, root and stalk lodging assessments and harvest analysis. Seed health metrics including cold and warm germination rates will also be part of the evaluation.

“The landscape of seed treatments has changed drastically in recent years with a multitude of new types of products entering the market,” Block said. “As coordinators of the trial, we are engaging in dialogue with participants to find new ways to innovate and shape the trials to provide modernized data.”

IPSA’s trial program continues to adapt to industry needs by incorporating cutting-edge technologies and industry expertise.

“We are also working on building industry partnerships to enhance the project,” Block said. “For example, this season we are partnering with Good Seed Analytics to provide high-level advanced data analytics and EarthOptics to take an initial exploratory step in experimenting with measuring soil health.”

Participants who commit and pay by March 1 will receive a 10% discount on the trial entry fee. For more information or to participate in the 2025 Seed Treatment Trials, contact Block at jeffrey.block@groalliance.com or call 608.642.0628.
