Fungus and Plants — Collaborating for Growth

What began as a solution for pest problems in poultry barns has grown into a game-changer for plant health across diverse crops. With Jabb’s innovative Beauveria bassiana formulation, we offer a proven solution for plant vigor, health, and quality. Backed by science and yielding consistent results, our product has evolved into a valuable resource for farmers seeking to push the limits in crop production.

My uncle, Jim Arends, started this journey about ten years ago and I joined in early 2022. As a small, family-run operation with deep roots in entomology, we’ve built this company by focusing on innovation and responding directly to farmers’ needs.

Now we’re ready to take the next step. Through partnership and collaboration, we aim to extend the benefits of B. bassiana to even more fields, providing growers with healthier, more productive crops and offering innovative options for the seed industry.

The leap from poultry barn to field crops occurred when a board member was struggling with his organic wheat. He applied the formulation developed by my uncle for pest control in poultry to his fields, resulting in one of his best wheat crops After repeating this trial on family’s fields, and seeing similar results, my uncle reformulated the product for crop applications.

While some biostimulants only colonize around the roots of a plant, B. bassiana functions as a systemic endophyte, living inside the plants. It enhances nutrient flow, photosynthesis, and overall plant health. And it isn’t picky. Every crop it has been applied to, from potatoes to cereal crops to vegetables and fruit trees see similar improvements.

Anecdotal evidence is compelling, but my uncle and I both hold degrees in entomology, and we turned to science to determine why we were seeing these impressive results.

Studies on various crops have shown that B. bassiana increases plant growth, improves stress tolerance, and enhances nutrient use efficiency. Anyone interested in the science behind what we are seeing in the fields should look for Lara Jaber and Bonnie Ownley’s research as a solid starting point.

Essentially, it functions like vitamin C for plants. Because it colonizes the entire plant – roots, stems and leaves – it creates a network that allows nutrients to move more efficiently through the plant. It also enhances communication within the plant, allowing improved adaptation to environmental stresses.

Our product is different than others on the market. While most B. bassiana strains are derived from insects, our B. bassiana is sourced from plants, leading to enhanced plant colonization and better performance compared to insect-derived strains.

Farmers sharing success stories through word of mouth has fueled our exponential growth, with nearly a million acres treated annually. Now, we’re ready to take it even further.

Today’s farmers are looking for something to make their crops stand out. B. bassiana allows for impressive results while not adding to chemical load on their crops. One of our formulations, EndoShield ST, is designed for seed treatment. It can also be combined with other treatments without degrading its efficacy. To further expand the reach of our products, we are exploring opportunities for partnership and collaboration.

Collaboration leads to mutual growth. Companies gain an edge, farmers gain healthier crops, and the agriculture community benefits from more resilient, high yielding plants.

By combining innovation with scientific rigor, we’re working to expand the reach of B. bassiana through partnerships with seed treatment companies. If advancing sustainable agriculture and supporting healthier crops resonates with you, let’s connect to explore the possibilities.
