As it prepares for its annual meeting next month (register by July 1 for a discounted rate), the National Association of Plant Breeders (NAPB) has announced the recipients of its Borlaug Scholarships as well as its George Washington Carver Scholarships for 2024.
The Borlaug Scholarship aims to enhance the plant breeding profession by facilitating the participation of promising future leaders in the NAPB annual meeting. This program is open to upper-level undergraduate and advanced graduate students enrolled in schools in the United States. Each Borlaug Scholar is matched with mentors who are NAPB members and dedicated to the scholars’ professional growth.
The George Washington Carver Diversity Scholarship is sponsored by NIFA and aimed at promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion by attracting qualified students to the annual meeting. The program also provides an additional mentoring component where members can volunteer to support scholarship recipients as mentors.
Seed World will be on location in St. Louis to interview some of this year’s scholars, and has interviewed numerous recipients in the past. See below for some of last year’s interviews! And register for the NAPB annual meeting by July 1.
