Solynta’s true potato seed challenges traditional potato tuber system.
Seed World Europe Editorial Director Marcel Bruins interviewed Solynta chief commercial officer Joost Van Regteren at the ISF World Seed Congress in Rotterdam. Van Regteren has been in the vegetable seed industry for 30 years, starting as a crop consultant. He wants Solynta to be seen as a seed company and not just a breeding company. Solynta recently began selling true potato seed. Van Regteren said the advantage of true potato seeds is that they are stable and much easier to transport than traditional tubers.
“Whenever you want to start a crop, start a crop,” he says. “True potato seed is the future.”
He tells Bruins how true potato seed can contribute to food security and fight climate change.
