Bayer is making several key executive leadership changes within it Crop Science Division, the company announced in a press release Jan. 10.
Effective March 1, 2024, Brian Naber will be stepping into the role of commercial lead for the North America region. This role is currently held by Jackie Applegate, who has announced retirement after 31 years of service to the company.
Malu Nachreiner, currently a senior representative and country division head for Bayer in Brazil, will step into the role vacated by Naber: commercial lead for the Asia Pacific region.
Effective Feb. 1, 2024, Oliver Rittgen is stepping into the Crop Science Division’s chief financial officer position, a change from his current role of chief financial officer in Bayer’s Consumer Health Division. This change is to fill the role vacated by Kelly Gast, who retired after almost 30 years with the company.

Effective Jan. 1, 2024, Sascha Israel succeeds Dirk Backhaus as head of product supply following Backhaus’ retirement. Amanda McClerren, former head of crop science R&D digital transformation and information technology, has stepped into the chief information officer, head of digital transformation and information technology position previously held by Israel.
Jessica Christiansen is stepping into the role of head of crop science communications after leading the Crop Science Division’s sustainability and business stewardship team.
“With the new setup of the Crop Science Executive Leadership Team, we are perfectly positioned to further drive our vision of regenerative agriculture and to deliver much needed innovations to farmers,” Rodrigo Santos, member of the Board of Bayer AG and president of the company’s Crop Science division, said in the release. “I am looking forward to working together with this team to tackle some of the most important topics of our time: achieving food security and fighting climate change at the same time.”
