When it comes to leading a team, there’s so much to consider from your manager’s desk. Are your team members working and functioning in a cohesive way? Are you creating a healthy company culture that promotes productivity? Is your management style allowing growth, autonomy and accountability?
Add on top of that already steep stack of responsibilities, change: change in the way businesses are functioning, change in work environments, change in generations and change in society. The pandemic brought about significant changes in the way businesses operate, and managers need to be equipped with the right tools to lead their teams during these challenging times.
As a team manager, it’s crucial to ask yourself, “Does my management style suit my team?”

Joining our panel discussion are three experts from across the seed and agriculture sector.
Jonathan Shaver, Envision Partners LLC. Applying old skills to new situations, Shaver has created opportunities that provide challenge and fulfillment. He has a portfolio of experiences that allows him to bridge between the technical aspects of science industry with the people who make those technologies a reality — including work previously as a research scientist at Monsanto and an agronomy professor at Oklahoma State University.
Jake Ware, HM.Clause and ASTA LEAD chair. Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Ware currently manages a sales and product development team for HM.Clause’s processing business in the U.S. and Canada. Ware has been working in agriculture for 10 years and grew up with both sides of his family in active farming — with one set of grandparents focusing on strawberries and cucumbers and the other focusing on apples and cherry orchards. He previously was a product manager selling hot pepper, tomatillo and open field bell pepper with HM.Clause, and he has a degree in economics with a cognate in business from Michigan State University. Not only that, but Ware believes in continuously improving himself — he has multiple accreditations from Cornell and UC Davis, including one on leadership and Seed Business 101.
Rhonda Werner, Ag1 Source. Joining Ag 1 Source in 2007 to focus on building out their Southern recruiting business in the agronomy sector, Werner has seen years of successful placements from grower level sales and agronomists up to CEO searches and everything in between. Over the years, she’s grown a loyal clientele who returns to her time and time again to fill some of their most important roles. Her role now has grown to also include overseeing most of the Eastern U.S. for all things agronomy related. She recently was promoted to Director of People and Culture of our Ag 1 Source and Career 1 Source brands.
