From the Aisles to the Fields — How Grocery Shopping Affects Ag

When most farmers plant crops, it’s to produce food for consumers around the world. Those consumers buy that food at grocery stores, but how does what they buy impact what you’re planting and seeding?

On the April 29 episode of Seed Speaks, we’re taking a closer look at grocery store shopping habits and what the agriculture industry should know. We’re joined by Kim Breshears, chief marketing officer for Potatoes USA, and Leslie Redmond, assistant professor in the department of food and human nutritional sciences at the University of Manitoba.

Breshears oversees the strategic planning, development, and execution of the Potatoes USA’s global marketing and communications initiatives. She is passionate about delivering results, strategic planning, market research, program development, and financial stewardship. For over 30 years, Breshears has led integrated marketing and branding initiatives for numerous industries, including produce, online search, tourism, home building, telecommunications, home furnishings, and high-tech industries.

Redmond is a United States registered dietitian with a master’s degree in exercise physiology and a doctorate degree in human nutrition from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She’s currently an assistant professor of food and human nutritional sciences at the U of M, where her research interests include the promotion of nutrition and physical activity through theory-based, culturally appropriate, community-centered interventions to decrease diet- and lifestyle-related chronic disease burden, specifically in partnership with Indigenous communities, and sustainable solutions to food insecurity among minoritized populations and university students.

Join us on April 26 at 12 p.m. CDT on Seed World‘s Seed World‘s Facebook,YouTube and LinkedIn pages to watch the discussion.
