FBSciences Joins New TFI Task Force to Enforce Benefits of Agricultural Biologicals
FBSciences announced that they have joined The Fertilizer Institute’s (TFI) Biostimulants Council. The company will work with TFI to develop the task force to “advance the inclusion of agricultural biologicals as powerful climate-smart technologies and products into federal policy and programs,” according to a news release.
FBSciences will join forces with various companies in the industry to build on the existing data of plant, soil and climate health benefits from agricultural biologicals. The task force will focus on collaborating on trials to prove the benefits of agricultural biologicals. The group will also provide counsel for federal policy makers.
“Agricultural biologicals have been widely adopted around the world as powerful tools to improve plant and soil health, manage climate-related abiotic and biotic stress, and deliver yield and ROI benefits to growers,” said Courtenay Wolfe, chair and CEO of FBSciences. “However, agricultural biologicals’ robust climate mitigation capabilities are less understood. The TFI Task Force will bring together leading players in the industry, providing the latest research, innovations, and recommendations to the USDA and policymakers to incorporate these powerful tools into future policy and programs.”
FBSciences showed how their agricultural biologicals mitigate climate change and lessen greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with their Climate Impact Report.
“FBS Technologies improve nitrogen use efficiency, reducing runoff and leading to a reduction in N2O emissions. Additionally, FBS Technologies increase above-ground biomass, below-ground biomass, and root exudate production, building healthier soils that sequester more carbon and reduce CO2 emissions,” said the release.
GHG emissions are increasing rapidly, with CO2 emissions growing nearly 90% since 1970. Agricultural biologicals could be used to reduce these emissions by increasing nutrient use efficiency and enhancing plant health while spearheading yield and ROI. Agricultural biologicals are also cost-effective and provide climate-smart benefits without needing an overhaul of growers’ cropping systems, according to the release.
“As our industry seeks out tools and strategies to meet growing regulatory pressure and demand for increased sustainability, agricultural biologicals provide powerful tools for plant, soil, and climate health while still meeting growing productivity requirements,” said Ed Thomas, vice president of Government Affairs at TFI.
The task force welcomes members of TFI’s Biostimulants Council and other stakeholders in the industry.
