Global Wheat Production Predicted Lower

U.S. farmers are predicted to generate 1.17 billion bushels of winter wheat in 2022, shared the Crop Production report issued by USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).

The first winter wheat production forecast of this year from NASS expected production to decrease 8% from 2021. May 1 predictions averaged 47.9 bushels per acre, 2.3 bushels less than 2021’s 50.2 bushels per acre, stated a news release from the USDA.

9,300 producers across the United States were surveyed for this Crop Production report.

The U.S. is not the only country suffering from lower wheat yields. The world consumption of wheat is expected to raise 3.8 million tons to 791.1 million, according to the USDA’s most recent World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report. Unfortunately, global trade for 2022 is predicted to be lower due to issues in the Ukraine.

Ukraine’s wheat exports were lowered 1 million tons to 19 million, following the closures of its Black Sea ports caused by the invasion in February. Currently, global wheat stocks are projected at a five-year low.
