At the Independent Professional Seed Association (IPSA) Annual Business Meeting during the 33rd IPSA Annual Conference in Indianapolis, Ind., Jeff Skemp, head of the IPSA education committee, announced the winners of the IPSA scholarship.
Skemp says IPSA had another successful year with the scholarship program, although applicant numbers were lower than previous years. There were 110 applicants submitted. Though application numbers were down, Skemp says the quality continued to be outstanding.
Ten students were selected to receive $2,000 scholarships, which were donated by IPSA members. Not only that, though, each IPSA scholarship winner also received a mentor from IPSA to help answer their questions and encourage them about their future endeavors.
The 10 scholarship winners are:
Nathan Behrends, Iowa State University
Cole Eden, Iowa State University
Lauren Gatz, Kansas State University
Addi Goodman, Southern Arkansas University Magnolia
Amelia Hayden, University of Minnesota — Twin Cities
Taylor Hartke, Southern Illinois University Carbondale
William Hurd, Morningside University
Johnna Jorgensen, South Dakota State
Alex Scovill, Kansas State University
One special scholarship was also given — the Tom Burrus Memorial Scholarship, given in honor of Tom Burrus from Burrus Seed. Karson Kimpling, a senior at the University of Illinois majoring in agricultural leadership, education and communications, was awarded the Tom Burrus Memorial Scholarship.
