Who is leading the charge in the seed industry innovation?
Populations are exploding, the middle class is growing and the need for more food and fiber is looming. Consumers and farmers alike need innovations in the food and agriculture industry more today than ever before.
They’re looking for innovations that not only add yield and increase ROI, but provide environmental benefits as well. This year, Seed World looked at the past year of innovations to determine which earned a spot in Seed World’s 10 Most Innovative Products of 2021. This is the inaugural contest and will be hosted annually.
When it came down to it, our team received an incredible number of applications. Choosing which products could move the needle was difficult, but with input from the Seed World editorial board and research from our internal team, winners were named based on a combination of the following:
- It must be related to seed.
- Products must have been launched between Nov. 1, 2020 and Nov. 1, 2021.
- The product must be unique and move the needle.
- What’s the product’s market potential?
- What’s the impact to grower/ROI?
- Is there a societal impact?
- How scalable is the product?
This led us to 10 products from three categories: traits, treatments and technology. We’ve listed our Top 10 Innovations and our honorable mentions below in alphabetical order by category.
