Truterra, LLC, the sustainability business of Land O’Lakes, Inc., one of America’s largest farmer-owned cooperatives, today announced a new collaboration with Verdesian Life Sciences (“Verdesian”), a leading provider of nutrient use efficiency technology solutions that support better yields and environmental outcomes. This collaboration will support the adoption of additional conservation and soil health building practices on farm acres across the U.S.
The collaboration will launch with multiple conservation innovation field trials that will enable participating farmers to test drive and measure the sustainability and profitability impacts of Verdesian’s nutrient use efficiency and cover crop technology solutions, using the Truterra™ sustainability tool.
One trial will allow farmers to test Verdesian’s Trident nitrogen stabilizer and measure its effectiveness in protecting against nitrogen loss and improving crop yield. The second trial will enable farmers to test the effectiveness of Verdesian’s SEED+ Liquid and Take Off ST seed treatments to accelerate cover crop establishment. The trials will begin in 2022.
Farmers will work with their local Truterra ag retailer to first establish a sustainability baseline for each field, and then measure and track the progress of their on-farm practices through both a sustainability and profitability lens throughout the innovation trials.
“At Verdesian, our business is built on the belief that sustainability and profitability go hand in hand, and we are thrilled to be teaming up with Truterra, a farmer-owned cooperative that shares this core principle of pragmatic sustainability,” said Kenny Avery, CEO of Verdesian Life Sciences. “The cutting-edge Truterra sustainability tool and strong network of ag retailers will allow us to work together to support farmers in adopting practice changes that are better for the environment and their farm businesses.”
“This work with Verdesian is an important prong in the Truterra holistic approach to bring together public and private resources, tools and partnerships to support farmers in their efforts to advance their on-farm sustainability,” said Jason Weller, President, Truterra. “Adopting new conservation practices can be an expensive and risky proposition, so innovation trials are one critical tool to help farmers test drive practice changes on their farms with reduced risk before implementing more widely across their operations, and we are excited to be collaborating with Verdesian to provide this tool to farmers across our footprint.”
This collaboration builds on a longstanding relationship between WinField United and Verdesian which supports value-added fertilizer additives, nitrogen stabilizers, plant nutrition products, inoculants and seed enhancement products.
The collaboration kicks off with these innovation trials and will continue to evolve in the future as both companies work together to leverage the power of their ag retail networks to help farmers to protect and restore the environment.
