On Tuesday, June 22, the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) awarded a second Distinguished Service Award to Barb Glenn, CEO of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA).
Glenn is a scientist with decades of experience as a researcher, policy leader and advocate for agriculture. She previously held leadership positions with CropLife America and the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO). Not only that, but for 17 years, she conducted dairy cattle nutrition research for the USDA ARS.
In 2014, she joined NASDA as CEO, and now, seven years later, is planning on retiring.
“While Barb was working at BIO, I called her by the wrong name,” Pat Miller, director of state government affairs at ASTA, says. “She graciously and humbly corrected me, and that has always stuck with me as a lesson on how to handle such situations with grace. As I got to know her, I learned that’s the way she always is.
“In terms of policy, you cannot imagine the scope of all the great things her team has done for us,” Miller continues. “Her passion for agriculture is evident. Barb has not only put together a policy juggernaut but has formed NASDA into an efficient and customer-friendly team.”
Glenn says her success really goes back to the people she works with.
“When you’ve done 40 years, and you’ve worked hard, the real successes you’ve had are all attributed to the people you’ve worked with,” she says. “Thank you so much for this — it’s an honor and I really appreciate it.”
On Monday, ASTA also announced that Chet Boruff of AOSCA received a Distinguished Service award.
