Spotlight on IP at SIPA Technical Education Unit

The Seed Innovation and Protection Alliance will put a spotlight on recent intellectual property happenings that impact how companies do business at a technical education unit Dec. 9, held in conjunction with the American Seed Trade Association’s CSS & Seed Expo meeting in Chicago.

“There have been some important changes in U.S. IP law that impact the business environment and how companies can conduct business,” says James Weatherly, SIPA executive director.

Attendees will hear from Dan Knauss of Cooley LLP, Alice Martin of Barnes & Thornburg LLP and James Saul of Faegre Baker Daniels LLP.

Martin’s talk will focus the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling (Helsinn v. Teva), which impacts when patents need to be filed. Meanwhile, Saul will follow up on his trademark presentation from last year and hone in on infringement in the online marketplace and what companies can to do better protect themselves. Additionally, Knauss will highlight the intersection of patents, international business and products in the market — an issue that’s garnered a lot of questions and attention.

The SIPA educational unit, which will be Dec. 9 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., will also be hosted by Seed World as a webinar for those who can’t be on site. Registration is free and can be done online at https://events.genndi.com/register/818182175026329806/2393bcb1d9
