A MOMENT IN TIME:
Our Jan. 12, 1968 issue highlighted the 22nd annual Hybrid Corn Industry-Research Conference held in Chicago. “Hybrid Interaction with Maturity, Population and Row Spacing” was discussed by Harvey Thompson, extension agronomist at Iowa State University. He proposed that high plant populations should be used when corn is grown in narrow rows and said that in 16 Iowa experiments, the response to narrow rows was greater than with low populations and that corn grown in narrow rows is more efficient per inch of moisture used by the plant.
