As Seed World Media looks to expand its coverage of the seed industry, it welcomes Joe Funk to the team as contributing editor.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to add Joe to our team,” says Shawn Brook, Seed World publisher. “His knowledge of the seed industry and network of contacts will be invaluable to our team as we continue to expand our coverage, both in terms of frequency and distribution channels.”
As a contributing editor for Seed World, Funk will be able to keep his finger on the pulse on the industry and stay in contact with those he’s worked so closely with through the years, while contributing to the premier news outlet the seed industry has come to depend on for the latest news and top-of-mind issues.
“I have known Shawn and respected Seed World for many years,” Funk says. “It is my privilege to now work with Seed World and continue my connections with the seed industry. I welcome and look forward to this opportunity.”
After more than 19 years of experience covering the seed industry, Funk announced his retirement as executive editor from Seed Today in June. In recognition of his contributions to the seed industry, the American Seed Trade Association honored Funk with its 2017 Distinguished Service Award at this year’s annual convention.
Most recently, he worked as a consultant for the Context Network, spending more than a month on assignment in Africa.
Funk is a graduate of the University of Illinois where he studied agronomy and agricultural economics. Today, he resides in Kalamazoo, Mich., with his wife and is enjoying more time away from the computer.
“Joe will be a great partner on our editorial team,” says Julie Deering, Seed World editor. “I’ve had the opportunity to work with him through the years and have always admired his insight, passion for the industry and ability to connect with others. The opportunity to work with Joe couldn’t have come at a better time.”
