Fun Facts: The word “narcissus,” its genus, comes from the Greek word “Narkissos” and its base word “Narke,” meaning sleep or numbness. This is attributed to the sedative effect from the alkaloids contained within the plant. As a member of the Amaryllidaceae family, daffodils are poisonous.
