Seed-X, whose unique AI and computer vision technology enriches seed performance, has won a 2019 Agfunder Innovation Award for the “Most Innovative International Startup Pre-Series A.”
The AgFunder Innovation Awards recognize the innovators and entrepreneurs driving the agri-food tech industry forward, nominated by a committee of global agrifood tech investors and the winners peer-selected through over 5,000 industry votes. This year the awards were presented on March 20 as part of the Rethink Agri-Food Innovation Week in San Francisco, at a special networking evening bridging the World Agri-Tech and Future Food-Tech summits. A unique opportunity to celebrate excellence and network with the entire agri-food innovation ecosystem.
Seed-X non-destructive analysis uses deep learning, AI, and machine vision to deliver comprehensive insights about each individual seed, revealing correlations between the seed phenotype and genotype to identify multiple traits simultaneously for better research and planning.
Seed-X testing allows seed companies to strengthen quality control for IP, ensuring that the right seeds are being produced and fighting fraud by discovering inappropriate seeds. Critical phenotype analysis occurs at the seed level, delivering essential information in a non-destructive method ensuring there’s no waiting for the “first leaf.” The process ensures consistency of seeds across plant breeds, geographies, and targeted characteristics, traits, and requirements of seed companies and producers
Seed-X intensive seed-by-seed examinations deliver deep analyses, providing genotypic insights from seed phenotype analysis. It understands the seed from the inside, allowing seed companies to select only the desired traits and creating better seeds. Seed companies and producers can use Seed-X technology to detect and predict plant characteristics at the seed level. The solution delivers insights into the breeding process, ensuring only the desired traits are bred into the next generation.
“We are honored to receive this award and proud of their recognition of Seed-X’s impact in reshaping our marketplace,” said Sarel Ashkenazy, Seed-X founder & CEO. “This is further confirmation of our product’s unique status and strengthens awareness about how we are transforming breeding and production processes.”
Ultimately, Seed-X will use longitudinal analyses to create unique numerical sequencing for seeds, building a biometric ID library. Seed-X individual crop knowledge base – corn, tomatoes, wheat, cucurbits and many more — will create the world’s largest phenotype-genotype correlations database, allowing for quicker discovery and design of better breeds for maximized yield/higher productivity and fewer resources.
