Agro en Punta 2025 Solidifies Uruguay’s Leadership in Agro-Exports

The second edition of Agro en Punta reaffirms Uruguay’s position as a leader in the agro-export sector, blending innovation, sustainability, and business growth. The event was officially opened by President Luis Lacalle Pou, Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries Fernando Mattos, and Luiz Ros, IDB representative for Uruguay.

Also attending were key figures including Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mining Elisa Facio; Minister of the Environment Robert Bouvier; Interim Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicolás Albertoni; Mayor of Maldonado Enrique Antía; as well as Sebastián Risso and Eduardo Rodríguez, director and deputy director of Uruguay XXI, along with other industry leaders and stakeholders. Agro en Punta has become a central meeting point for the agricultural and agro-industrial sectors.

Over the course of three days, the Punta del Este Convention Center will showcase Uruguay’s vital role in shaping the future of global markets, according to a press release.

Supported by the Uruguay country brand, the event features a stand coordinated by Uruguay XXI, offering a platform to explore investment opportunities within the agro-export sector. Visitors will discover Uruguay’s competitive advantages, including its strengths as a business and innovation hub in the region.

The stand also highlights the licensing of the Marca País (Country Brand) under LSQA certification, offering insights into Uruguay’s participation in Expo Osaka 2025. At this international event, Uruguay will promote its sustainable production model and showcase its innovation potential in the agri-food sector.

During the inauguration, President Luis Lacalle Pou emphasized Uruguay’s significant role in the evolution of the agro-export sector and its potential for future growth. “Our country has enormous objective strengths. We are part of an evolutionary and forward-looking process, where Uruguay will continue to position itself as a key player in the agricultural world,” he stated.

Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries Fernando Mattos highlighted agriculture’s critical role in Uruguay’s economy. “We are the most agricultural country in the world; the food, fibers, and biofuels that the world needs are generated here. Beyond that, we are also a source of employment and livelihood for those who live in rural areas. Our commitment is to guarantee sustainable production, with added value and quality certification,” he explained. He also noted Uruguay’s political and economic stability as a key attraction for investment and emphasized the country’s leadership in the green economy. “Our production system has traceability and sustainability certifications that position us as a reliable country for international markets.”

Mattos pointed to long-standing regulations that support the sector’s growth. “The Forestry Law that protects the native forest, the soil use and management plan in force for 15 years, and the mandatory traceability in the livestock identification system are unique examples in the world of state policies that project us into the future and guarantee certifications demanded by international markets,” he said.

Luiz Ros, the IDB’s representative in Uruguay, praised the country’s innovative spirit. “Within the IDB, we always say that Uruguay is the region’s laboratory. When you want to think of something innovative, you think of Uruguay.” He emphasized the importance of combining technological innovation with sustainability and inclusion, stressing the need to advance agriculture 2.0. “It is time to promote agriculture 2.0 and commit to digital transformation, irrigation efficiency, and innovation development in Uruguay. This country has an impressive innovative spirit, and we want to support its evolution towards even more sustainable production,” he concluded.

With the presence of numerous international delegations, Agro en Punta highlighted Uruguay’s excellence in production and its leadership in driving sustainable development within the sector. The event reaffirmed Uruguay’s commitment to a responsible and future-focused production model, where traceability, certification, and innovation are playing an increasingly pivotal role.
