You’ve heard the saying the customer is always right, but is that always true? When governments are making new policies regarding agriculture who are they listening to — consumer preferences or the actual facts? Are they listening to science when making new agriculture policy and if not, what affect is that having on the agriculture industry?
On the Nov. 2 episode of Seed Speaks, we’re taking a closer look at the affect consumer trends and perception can have on agricultural policy. We’re joined by John Jamieson, the president and CEO of the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity (CCFI) and Kent Schescke, the executive vice president and CEO for the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST).
Jamieson served as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development in Prince Edward Island prior to working at CCFI. He previously served as the executive director of the P.E.I. Federation of Agriculture and has a wealth of knowledge working with various commodity organizations. Jamieson is also a Professional Agrologist and Certified Nutrient Management Planner.
Schescke is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia and served as an agriculture education instructor for 14 years in Missouri prior to joining the National Future Farmers of America Foundation. Before CAST he was the director of government and non-profit relations, working closely with governmental agencies, private foundations, agricultural, youth and educational organizations.
Join us on Nov. 2 at 12 p.m. CDT on Seed World‘s Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn pages to watch the discussion.
