More than 300 attendees from Germany and abroad gathered for PotatoEurope on September 7, 2022, at Gut Rethmar to commemorate EUROPLANT Pflanzenzucht GmbH’s 30th anniversary and to bid Heinrich Böhm well wishes for his retirement.
“Thirty years ago, EUROPLANT has been established, the beginning of our journey. We are proud to look back on a successful and dynamic company history driven by your trust and cooperation,” said Jörg Renatus, managing director of EUROPLANT, in a release. “With a sale of over 500,000 t of potatoes, we have also gained a significant market position internationally.”
EUROPLANT boasts sales structures in more than 70 countries across all continents. Decades of successful research and breeding by Böhm-Nordkartoffel Agrarproduktion GmbH & Co. OHG (BNA), EUROPLANT’s sister company, was the foundation for EUROPLANT’s success, shared the release.
“Without your commitment, your entrepreneurial foresight, your trust and your lasting support, our successful path of the last 30 years would not have been possible,” Jörg Renatus said to Heinrich Böhm, long-time managing director for Kartoffelzucht Böhm GmbH & Co. KG and BNA.
Renatus also discussed the future of EUROPLANT, including the company’s merger with BNA set for 2023/2024.
“We will master the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, those of climate change, the growing world population and the decreasing free framework conditions in the international potato trade,” he said. “The integration of the two companies will create an even stronger EUROPLANT, which combines the units of new breeding, maintenance breeding, agriculture as well as propagation and sales.”
Laudator Olaf Feuerborn, chairman of the board for UNIKA, thanked Böhm for his services to potato breeding.
“Dr Böhm is known as a proven, go-getting expert who thinks and acts far beyond the boundaries of his own company. He played a major role that the German potato industry is taken seriously at home and abroad today, professionally and politically.”
Böhm studied agricultural sciences and received his doctorate in plant breeding. He also took part in additional plant breeding committees and professional organizations throughout his career.
