Golden Harvest website

The UC Davis Seed Biotechnology Center is hosting its 8th Breeding with Genomics class on February 13-15, 2018. This course is aimed at professionals who are directly or indirectly involved in plant breeding and germplasm improvement. It is an opportunity for breeders who are already using these tools to expand their knowledge of new strategies and technologies and for laboratory personnel to appreciate how the marker data that they generate are applied in breeding programs.

The course will host a hands-on workshop on software support to marker application in breeding programs including R and Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (BLUPs).

The class covers the basics of DNA markers, quantitative trait loci, association studies and genomic selection. The core instructors are Allen Van Deynze, UC Davis, and David Francis, The Ohio State University.  They will be joined by number of experts in application of genomics to plant breeding from academia and the private industry.

The early-bird registration is available until December 15, 2017. For further information please visit http://sbc.ucdavis.edu/Courses/Breeding_with_Genomics/.

Seed Biology and Quality – registration now open

Delivering improved varieties and crop protection through high quality seed is a vital component of modern agricultural production systems. It is critical that seed producers and marketers have an understanding of the biological factors that contribute to the development and maintenance of seed health, vigor and viability, and how those qualities are measured. This course presents the scientific background and technical protocols for assessing, enhancing and maintaining high seed quality and updates participants on new information in these topics, including seed pathology and enhancement. The course targets quality assurance professionals in the seed industry, new employees, consultants, breeders and seed producers to extend and update their knowledge.

This course has been revised to include new and different topics. It is on June 19-21, 2018 at UC Davis. Information is at http://sbc.ucdavis.edu/Courses/Seed_Biology_and_Quality/. Additional updates will be forthcoming.
