Celebrate 120 Years with CSGA to Win, and Join our Special General Meeting in Calgary

Calgary's Peace Bridge.

We’re celebrating 120 years! If you’ve been following our social media, reading our newsletter, or flipping through your September print issue of Seed World Canada, you’ll know we’ve kicked off our 120th Anniversary Contest.

Caroline Lafontaine is chief operating officer for the Canadian Seed Growers’ Association

We’re reminded that this incredible journey wouldn’t have been possible without our seed-growing community. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to all those who came before us. Their hard work and determination have laid the strong foundation for the mission we continue to advance today.

We are celebrating not only CSGA’s longevity but also the passion and resilience of our incredible community. Every step we’ve taken, we’ve taken together, and to that, we want to celebrate!

We’re launching a contest that’s all about you — showcasing the people from coast to coast who have made these 120 years so meaningful and our sector strong — all for a chance to WIN!

Seed growers — and frankly, everyone in the seed sector — tend to be humble, quietly serving as the first link in countless value chains. But now, it’s time to step up and celebrate what we do and why it matters. At the heart of this contest is one simple but powerful goal: sharing our stories.

Other commodity and specialty groups proudly promote their contributions. And why shouldn’t we? Let’s have a little pride in that Certified seed sticker! From talking to provincial branches, I can tell you that our “I Heart Certified Seed” stickers are a hot item at trade shows.

Now imagine if growers and sector experts started sharing photos of their work — whether running a combine or inspecting crops in the field. That’s exactly what our social media contest is all about: shining a spotlight on the incredible work we do and showing it off with pride.

So, how can you enter the contest for your chance to win a Pit Boss Wood Pellet Grill & Smoker? Simply follow us on social media, post a photo, and tell us why you love Certified seed! With #Harvest24 in full swing, everyone is out there working hard, bringing certified seed into the bin and to market. This is your moment to celebrate, share your story, and be part of something bigger!

How to Enter our Social Media Contest

  • Follow at least 1 of our 3 social media accounts: Twitter (X), Facebook, LinkedIn
  • Show us the passionate people behind Certified seed by taking a photo (selfie, group, family, farm, etc.), sharing it on Twitter (X), Facebook and/or LinkedIn, and briefly explaining why YOU love Certified Seed. Do you have one of our “I Heart Certified Seed” stickers? Please include it in your photo! Download one to print out here.
  • Make sure to use the hashtag #CSGA120 or #ACPS120.

Deadline: Nov. 29, 2024

Proposed Bylaw Changes to Reintroduce Affiliate and Associate Membership Classes

We are also getting ready for an upcoming Special General Meeting in Calgary on Nov. 26, where members will be asked to vote on proposed bylaw changes to enable the reintroduction of Affiliate and Associate membership classes. This initiative connects directly to our work on Seed Regulatory Modernization (SRM), where we’re focused on creating a more open and inclusive seed certification framework. As CSGA aspires to become the main administrator of Canada’s seed certification system, it’s crucial that every stakeholder who wants to be engaged in seed certification can do so.
After 120 years, it’s a good time to remind people of who we are and the foundational role we play. Our primary role is as a co-regulator with the Government of Canada, delivering that national seed crop certification program. We’re excited, engaged, and ready for this next step!
