The Canadian Plant Breeding Innovation Awards are Accepting Nominations, Applications for 2025!

With the common  goals of recognizing achievement and innovation in plant breeding and shining a spotlight on the contributions made by plant breeders in Canada, the Canadian Plant Breeding Innovation (CPBI) Awards are now soliciting nominations and applicants to be awarded in 2025.

The CPBI Awards are an opportunity to recognize plant breeders at various stages in their careers. 

It is broken down into the following components. Application deadline is Oct. 31, 2024. If you have questions that aren’t answered on any of the pages below, email editor Marc Zienkiewicz at mzienkiewicz@seedworldgroup.com!

CPBI Innovation Scholarships — One winner from the East and two from the West, recognizing up-and-coming young plant breeders. Students at the following schools are eligible to apply: University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, University of Saskatchewan, University of Manitoba, University of Guelph, Laval University and McGill University.

Seed of the Year Honouring the accomplishments of seed breeders from across Canada and their chosen variety, with the intention of bolstering knowledge of the importance of breeding programs in Canada. The winner is selected by Seed World Canada’s editorial board.

Canadian Plant Breeding and Genetics Award Sponsored by Seeds Canada and Seed World Canada, it’s presented annually to a public or private sector researcher who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of Canadian plant agriculture through research in plant breeding and genetics. The winner has the honour of the picking the year’s CPBI Scholarship recipients.
