Registration for Seeds Canada Seed School Closes Today

Seeds Canada turned three years old today, and issued the above highlight reel to celebrate the past 12 months.

The organization, which formed three years ago after the amalgamation of the Canadian Seed Trade Association, Canadian Plant Technology Agency, Commercial Seed Analysts Association of Canada and the Canadian Seed Institute, celebrated with a post on X thanking industry stakeholders.

With a busy year ahead including its annual general meeting to be held in Edmonton, Alta., Seeds Canada is set to hold its much-anticipated Seed School event later this month in Winnipeg, taking place Feb. 12-14. The event is being held in partnership with Cereals Canada.

Seeds Canada Director of Member Relations Lorne Hadley shed light on the Seed School program in a recent interview, emphasizing its diversity of speakers and its emphasis on the continuous improvement process within the seed industry.

“We did that on purpose. The reason for the diversity and the reason for Seed School is we have a very complex industry that people new to it will be well-served learning about,” he said. He emphasized that the various aspects of the seed industry, including plant breeding science, agronomic science, and quality control, require collaboration with customers, farmers and stakeholders.

Discussing the continuous improvement process in the seed industry, Hadley explained, “Nothing is stagnant; no seed developer throws a single variety on the market and then walks away. It’s a cycle driven by the same things that drive farmers and end-users to continuously improve their processes.”

He highlighted the industry’s commitment to attention to detail and discipline, ensuring a dynamic and evolving approach, which will be included in the agenda as well.
