Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) announced its plans to expand the canola processing complex in Yorkton, Saskatchewan to increase its capacity according to a release. LDC is a global merchant and agricultural goods processor.
“This investment supports the group’s strategic growth plans by reinforcing core merchandizing activities, in this case with additional capacity to originate and process Canadian canola seeds to provide nourishment for people and livestock,” said Michael Gelchie, LDC’s CEO. “It also positions LDC as a strategic feedstock provider to renewable energy producers and accelerates our contribution to a global energy transition that we are excited to be a part of.”
The complex has been operational since 2009 with 120 employees currently. At the site, good grade canola oil and feed meal are produced and the location allows for benefits from dual rail and road infrastructure. By expanding the facility, LDC will increase their canola seed sourcing capabilities and operational synergies.
“This project reflects our long-term commitment to North America as a key market for LDC, both in terms of origination and distribution, and is expected to contribute to continued local economic development,” said Brian Conn, LDC’s country manager for Canada.
LDC expects construction to begin later this year. The expansion will allow for double the current annual crush capacity to over 2 million metric tons.
