BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions has received registration from Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) for Sphaerex fungicide. Combining two active ingredients, Prothioconazole and Metconazole, Sphaerex helps manage Fusarium Head Blight (FHB), and also reduces deoxynivalenol (DON), which can significantly impact yield and negatively alter grain quality, according to the company. Sphaerex will be available for purchase for the 2022 growing season.
“We know farmers need new and innovative solutions to manage the most pressing agronomic challenges on their fields today, which is why we’re excited to announce the addition of Sphaerex to our cereal portfolio,” said Mark Shillingford, director of marketing, BASF Canada. “With FHB losses in Canada amounting to upwards of $300 million annually, we saw the need to provide a solution that Western Canadian growers could count on to protect against major diseases.”
Sphaerex is registered for use on wheat, barley, oats, rye and triticale crops, and provides broad spectrum protection against a wide range of diseases, BASF said.
