Germination Podcast Nabs National Award

Germination’s podcast episode “Changing the World Through Pulse Breeding” has been honoured with a national award.

The episode profiled McGill University pulse breeder Valerio Hoyos-Villegas and his career in breeding and was hosted by Marc Zienkiewicz, who received the Canadian Farm Writers’ Federation (CFWF) Tom Leach Award for Electronic Media (Audio).

Agricultural journalists, broadcasters, communicators and photographers were honoured at the 2021 Awards Ceremony, held on Sept. 24, as an online event in conjunction with the CFWF “Risky Business” conference.

Winners were chosen by 28 judges from across Canada, the United States and the UK. These judges included journalists, photographers, professors, farmers and communicators from different media and publications, and a mix of agricultural and non-agricultural backgrounds.

The CFWF represents almost 350 English-speaking agricultural journalists, broadcasters and communicators from across Canada through six regional associations in Atlantic Canada, Eastern Canada, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia.
