Cereal and specialty crop growers in Western Canada have new options for controlling the most damaging diseases with the registration of new Hornet fungicide and label updates for INTEGO Solo seed treatment from Nufarm Agriculture Inc._x000D_

New Hornet is a foliar fungicide that protects cereal crops from fusarium head blight, and leaf, stem and stripe rust. Hornet (Group 3) contains a proprietary brand of tebuconazole in an SC formulation to offer cereal growers more options for effective disease control._x000D_

“Fusarium incidence has risen significantly in the last three years, and in 2016 approximately half of hard red spring wheat samples and two thirds of durum samples in Western Canada were impacted by Fusarium, according to the Canadian Grains Commission,” says Roger Rotariu, Western marketing manager with Nufarm Agriculture Inc. “Faced with the threat of Fusarium and the continuing impact of rusts, Hornet provides a proven, effective option to protect crops from the devastating impacts these diseases can have on wheat yield and quality.”_x000D_

Hornet is registered for use on barley, oats, and spring, durum and winter wheat. Hornet can be used from the 4-leaf stage to flowering, depending on the diseases targeted. For best results, Hornet must be applied prior to the onset of disease. Hornet is available at crop retailers across Western Canada._x000D_

INTEGO Solo is fully registered for field peas_x000D_
In time for 2017 seed treatment, the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has approved several label updates for INTEGO Solo seed treatment. INTEGO Solo (Group 22) is the only seed treatment available to protect field crops from aphanomyces root rot, and is now fully approved for use on field pea and sunflower crops._x000D_

Some label uses for legumes have also been updated – a new rate range for legumes to allow for a higher rate in high disease pressure areas, and the removal of all grazing restrictions for all legumes._x000D_

“Great news for growers is that INTEGO Solo is now fully registered to protect field peas against aphanomyces,” says Rotariu._x000D_

For the past several years, INTEGO Solo has been receiving emergency use exemptions for field peas._x000D_

“We know aphanomyces root rot is devastating and widespread across Western Canada, so with this label update we can assure growers that INTEGO Solo will be readily available to protect the yield potential of all their high value pulse crops,” he says. “INTEGO Solo has been used to protect against Aphanomyces euteiches, but growers are also seeing additional value in the control of multiple Pythium species provided by a new and different mode of action and the protection against Phytophthora sojae which is having a significant impact in soybeans.”
