Based in Longmont, Colorado, Asgar Shir serves as director of operations for Eurofins BioDiagnostics. His knowledge and skills expand from classical plant breeding to the application of molecular markers in plant breeding. Upon graduation from the University of California, Davis, he managed a molecular marker lab for a seed company where he developed a number of molecular markers for different crops and successfully applied them in breeding programs. In 2008, Shir joined Eurofins BioDiagnostics, managing their DNA Lab and helping clients apply molecular markers not only in their breeding programs but also in DNA fingerprinting of their lines, hybridity and varietal identification, as well as trait linked marker specific to disease resistance traits. Shir has been contributing toward the advancement of agriculture and plant breeding through his work in molecular breeding for more than 20 years.
