The American Seed Trade Association kicked off its annual corn, sorghum and soybean seed research conference, also referred to as CSS 2014 & Seed Expo, in Chicago today (Dec. 8).
Here, the seed industry comes together to discuss issues impacting the industry, propose new policies and share information that could further the industry as a whole. One such area that received attention is seed conditioning technologies.
Alan Gaul of Iowa State University moderated a panel of speakers, representing Bratney Companies, Popp Engineering, Inc. and Fischbein LLC.
Fischbein’s Allan Sutherland shared his company’s experience as it relates to refuge-in-a-bag (RIB) blending and weighing. Sutherland says the company has installed more than 25 handling systems in the Midwest. During his presentation he focused on modular design, scale accuracy, homogenous blending, ease of use, data acquisition and reporting, and service and support.
With RIB, the seed industry has obviously gone through a learning curve, Gaul says.
More information from CSS 2014 & Seed Expo will be posted. Stay up to date at SeedWorld.com.
