With a fundraising goal of $2.5 million, the University of California, Davis, Seed Biotechnology Center aims to establish an endowed chair position recognizing the contributions of Kent Bradford, a plant sciences professor who has served as the center’s founder and director.
“Reaching this goal will allow for the ongoing management and operation of the center and help to preserve its leading position in research and education,” says Helene Dillard, dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Limagrain answered the call by making a $500,000 gift to help establish the endowed chair position. “At Limagrain, we recognize the value of long-term relationships and investments in the future,” says Daniel Chéron, Limagrain CEO.
The company’s partnership with UC-Davis stems from HM.CLAUSE, a business unit of Limagrain with headquarters in Davis, California, and Portes-lès-Valence, France. “For over 100 years, UC-Davis has been a world leader in plant breeding and agricultural science,” says André Cariou, HM.CLAUSE vice president of global sales. “The university has paved the way for research breakthroughs in genomics, plant breeding and seed science that have benefitted not only the ag industry but consumers at large.”
