Bayer CropScience Expands European Center for Wheat Breeding in Gatersleben

Bayer CropScience is extending its European Wheat Breeding Center in Saxony-Anhalt in Germany. The company has tripled the capacity of its complex on the premises of the Gatersleben Biotech Park with investments amounting to some EUR 15 million since its inauguration in 2012.
“The expansion of the breeding center is another milestone in our wheat strategy,” said Frank Terhorst, Head of Bayer CropScience’s Seeds business, at the inauguration of the new buildings.
The center currently comprises some 40 hectares of farm land, greenhouses, laboratories and offices, and facilities for seed preparation. In the coming years, the wheat breeding area will be extended to a total of 80 hectares.
